Carmel McCarney Artist

I am a Sydney-based artist working primarily in painting, drawing and printmaking. My practice is an ongoing investigation into how abstraction can hold feeling, memory and time all at once and an invitation for anyone standing in front of the work to slow down and feel their way into it.

My practice sits within process-driven abstraction, chance, and colour field painting, with roots in the concerns of Abstract Expressionism. I'm drawn to abstraction because it lets feeling move through materiality, process and colour in a way that communicates tactilely. It is also, for me, a practice of choosing calm over chaos - a space where soft memories and contemplation are allowed to surface, and where time is measured as lived experience.
