Carmel McCarney

Coastal landscapes inform my practice which is based between studios in Manly and Gerringong on the Australian East Coast. With over 15 years experience exhibiting across city and regional galleries, I explore self as palimpsest - a layered surface bearing visible traces of memory, place and time. My work investigates how natural forces leave marks, paralleling the way experience shapes identity. Through deliberate exploration of materiality, I aim to balance chance with control, finding in nature both a grounding presence and metaphor for accumulation. Currently undertaking my BFA at National Art School, I continue to develop work that honours process, impermanence and the restorative power of the coastal environment.
