Carmel maintains studios in Manly and Gerringong, where coastal landscapes inform her practice. With over 15 years experience exhibiting across city and regional galleries, she explores self as palimpsest - a layered surface bearing visible traces of memory, place and time. Her work investigates how natural forces leave marks, paralleling the way experience shapes identity. Through deliberate exploration of materiality, she balances chance with control, finding in nature both a grounding presence and metaphor for accumulation. Currently undertaking her BFA at National Art School, McCarney continues to develop work that honours process, impermanence and the restorative power of the coastal environment.
